Leather Lane Conservation Group secure plans for South Heath 'green bridge'

Thank you and congratulations to this small but exhaustive local group of campaigners; Leather Lane Conservation Group who have managed to secure a plan for a 'green bridge' over the railway between the South Heath portal and the Wendover viaduct.
- In the original HS2 plan, 100 trees, mainly oaks, were to be felled. These were oaks planted by Arthur Lazenby, the founder of the famous Liberty department store in the late 1800s. Thanks to their efforts, a total of only 16 oak trees will be lost.
- A green bridge (or short tunnel) over the railway will be constructed. It will be 25m wide with planting on the bridge to provide flight lines for bats and connectivity for all wildlife. This is the only green bridge in the Chilterns National Landscape and the only wildlife friendly crossing between the South Heath portal and the Wendover viaduct. It represents a vast improvement on the Hybrid Bill.
- The campaigners have recently registered as a charity and are looking to establish a conservation area, particularly for bats, encompassing the new and old lanes, and the remaining trees, to ensure that the wildlife crossing continues to function effectively.
